Classic Trucks – Classic Trucks

A baby bird looks out of the nest and sees nothing but 18-wheelers, honking horns and tech oligarchs bending the world into ugly shapes. That’s the image at the center of “Classic Trucks”, the self-titled single from Josh Jarman’s new solo project, out now on Breakfast Records.

Jarman, drummer and vocalist in Bristol’s Langkamer, wrote it first, before Born Naked (W14) and Masculine Jazz (W18), the songs already covered under this same project name. Written in one sitting, it’s the confession that gives the other two their context: a self-described late bloomer in their thirties, hauling every adult anxiety and neurosis into a brand new creative outlet while the world outside makes a considerable racket. “It’s a meandering look at the life of a sapling artist, beset on all sides by traffic and capitalism”, Jarman says. Starting a project by admitting you’re terrified isn’t the obvious move, and it’s the right one.
